Éléments pour une anthropologie de la robotique
Résumé
This article considers the program opened by the anthropology of robotics by focusing on the works of Stefan Helmreich, Lucy Suchman, Emmanuel Grimaud and Zaven Paré, as well as those of Denis Vidal. Between an anthropology of artificial life, the study of human-robot interactions and the practice of experimental ethnography, these works shows how robotics enters the issues addressed by the anthropology of life. Through the construction of robots and the various ways in which they become animated, complex social and cultural arrangements are set. These arrangements shed a particular light on the representations of life. By allowing to play with the borders of the living, to transgress them, or on the contrary to reaffirm them, the ontological project underlied by robotics thus re-plays a great constant of the relationships that humans have with their technologies but also with life itself.
Cet article propose de revenir sur le programme ouvert par l’anthropologie de la robotique en s’intéressant plus particulièrement aux travaux de Stefan Helmreich, Lucy Suchman, Emmanuel Grimaud et Zaven Paré, ainsi que ceux de Denis Vidal. Entre anthropologie de la vie artificielle, interactions humain-robot et ethnographie expérimentale, ces travaux montrent de quelle manière la robotique s’inscrit dans les problématiques abordées par l’anthropologie de la vie. À travers la construction des robots et les diverses façons dont ils s’animent, se mettent en route des agencements sociaux et culturels complexes qui participent des représentations de la vie. En permettant de jouer avec les frontières du vivant, de les transgresser, ou au contraire de les réaffirmer, le projet ontologique sous-jacent à la robotique rejoue ainsi une grande constante des rapports qu'ont les humains avec leurs technologies mais aussi avec la vie elle-même.
